About Me
Hi, my name’s Jaime Flor. I’ve been playing music for about 35 years now. I originally started out on piano, but switched to guitar at age 13. I also sang in the high school choir. By age 17, I started playing in local bands professionally. Since then, I’ve had various projects. The most recent one’s were the Restless Minds in 2012, and a solo project called “Jamie” in 2017. With the Restless Minds, I recorded 10 songs and a music video. With Jamie, I made some home recording on an app called Logic Pro X. I also played 2 gigs, 1 at Queen Bees and another at a winery called Koi Zen. As for teaching, I started out teaching friends. However, I’ve had about 7 students as a professional guitar teacher. Most of my students have been kids, but 2 were adults. As for my style, I specialize in rock and acoustic guitar, but I do have an understanding of pop music. A lot of my favorite bands are pop, alternative rock and new wave influenced. I also excel in composing original songs.

Jaime F. has over 3-4 years years of music experience in the Spring Valley area.

Jaime F. is proficient in and teaches Guitar Lessons, Song Writing Lessons .

What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons

Beginner -

What I teach, is how to approach songwriting, as far as popular music goes. The circle of fifths, guitar, maybe keyboard synth. I also have knowledge when it comes to apps like Garage Band and Logic Pro X. So learning how to use those programs with a midi keyboard, I can help with. I also teach my own personal methods for writing a vocal melody. Most of my experience is with rock, but pop is doable as well.

What to expect in my Guitar Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

I start out with an introduction to the instrument. From there, I see what my students preferences are for learning. However, I typically teach from the Hal Leonard Guitar Method book. So we start with basics, and see where we can go from there. If my students are advanced enough, I may teach them how to approach songwriting, or give tips about how to sing better.

Formal Education:

I graduated from Grossmont/Cuyamaca in 2017. I’m a sociology major, but I took many music and music industry classes as a former music industry major. The music program at both sister schools have most of the same requirements. At Cuyamaca College, I took a recording class, piano levels 1-2, history of rock, choir, the rock pop and soul ensemble, and various music industry classes. As for Grossmont College, I took Guitar Theory 1, 4 semesters of Class Voice, and Gospel Choir. During this time I was determined to learn how to sing properly and gain confidence in myself as a singer.

Private Education:

I started to learn piano at "Wagner's School of Music". After that, I switched to private lessons. This lasted for 5-6 years, and then I began to take private guitar lessons at a local music store in La Mesa. I took guitar lessons for 2 years, until I was able to learn everything on my own. I also went to a small private school, where I was in a voice class with 2 other students. I was also in the choir at Valhalla High School, Cuyamaca college and Grossmont College’s gospel choir.

Performing Experience:

I have a lot of performing experience, especially as a guitarist. However, my first experiences performing were piano recitals at Wagner's School of Music. I also had choir performances in high school and I played bass in a band that played music on the sidelines during basketball games. I also performed as a guitarist at a school dance. Outside of high school and college, most of my performance experience comes from the bands that I played guitar in. Coffee shops, bars, parties, and events like the '97 X Games. Most of our gigs were at 21 and up venues, despite the fact that most of our friends, and fans teenagers. I was also in a side project that was more melodic and progressive. We had a weekly daytime gig at a coffee shop at Viejas Casino. More recently, I performed with Cuyamaca College's Rock Pop and Soul Ensemble. It's a class of 15-20 music students that learn how to play an album, then perform it live at the end of the semester. I've also been performing in Classical Voice recitals. I performed Bach's "Bist Du Bei Mir," an aria that he composed for his wife, and Mozart's "Komm Lieber Mai Und Mache". I also did "Lasciatemi Moririe," an Italian piece by Claudio Monteverdi. My theater piece was "Think of Me" from Phantom of the Opera and I was also given permission to perform some of my original songs. I also took 4 semesters of Gospel Choir and I still volunteer for the tenor section. Every semester, aside from the final performance, we perform at various local gigs. My most recent performances as a frontman, were at Queen Bees and the Koi Zen winery.

Experience Teaching:

I started out with this company new to teaching in 2017. Since then, I’ve had 7 students. I mostly teach guitar, but I can teach songwriting as well. I do have the knowledge to teach singing, but I’m not doing that at the moment.
