8+ Years
Shakira is a writer, singer, future talk-show host, director and actress living in sunny South Florida. She is completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Florida Atlantic University, majoring in Theatre with a minor in Communications and Broadcasting. She’s been studying marketing, acting and speech since she was 8, and performing in theatre/hosting active podcasts since she was 12. She first started acting at her middle school’s theater, training for Thespians, and graduated to performing in plays and musicals throughout high school. She was given the opportunity to play such roles in her theatres as playing Beatricein Much Ado about Nothing, being head of costumes for her high-school’s production of Metal Macbeth, and directing her high-schools original production of The Rebellion: Agents of Change. Shakira was hired as only a freshman by her University, to participate in its New Student Orientation program, and has undergone a vigorous 6-month training process, complete with a trip to Murray Kentucky to meet other students from every University across the U.S who are also part of that program at their Universities. Also, with over 4 years of active experience working with her local YMCA in a childcare setting, 6 years more experience in general child care, and 4 years of being involved in leadership organizations (from her high school SGA, to being VP of Community Council at her University, FAU) Shakira undoubtedly possesses skills necessary to implement the duties of a leader in any way, shape, or form. Shakira is dedicated to working around her passion, performing arts, and has jumped over many hurdles to make it to where she currently is in her career and school-life, and she intends to continue! Shakira was originally Stephen Sondheim’s first choice to play “The Witch” in Into the Woods, but she couldn’t, as she would not be born for another nine years. She has seen every episode of The Office, and re-reads/watches the Harry Potter Seriesreligiously.
Shakira D. has over 8+ years of music experience in the Margate area.

Performing Experience:
My experience in the Performing Arts: I have been in many school productions, beginning at age 6, but continuing more seriously in 6thgrade at Sunrise Middle when I began to compete in Thespians. I have acted in, done costumes for, house manaed and stage directed shows such as: -Why Do Mosquitos Buzz In Peoples Ears -High School Musical -Horton Hears A Who -Little Shop of Horrors -As You Like It -Bye, Bye Birdie! -Once Upon a Mattress (Swamps of home is my favorite song) -Into the Woods (I was BORN to play the witch.) -Addams Family -A Midsummer Night’s Dream -Much Ado about Nothing -Metal Macbeth (My High School wrote and interpreted Macbeth as a Metal battle-of-the-bands production -The Rebellion: Agents of Change (A production with original script and music written by me and 15 of my peers. -DMV Lady -A Christmas Poem And many more. I have been singing since I was 3, and was in chorus from elementary school through 11th grade. I have been in drama club since 5th grade. I have learned dance (African, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Ballet, Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Bachata, and Zumba) from ages 5-15, although I have not danced since then. I participate in anything I can involving the arts, and I started a club at my high school promoting artists, in which we employed a Glee-type set up. We often choose a theme of the week, write poems/songs/skits based on that theme, and later host Open Mic nights/Talent shows. I was admitted into the B.F.A (Bachelors in Fine Arts) Program at my University after auditioning, my major being Theatre with a minor in Communications. I would say performing is my passion!
Experience Teaching:
My Main focus is on Healthy Singing and keeping the original texture of the natural voice, while applying technique for mature sound and performance. As a seasoned singer/songwriter, I’ve had experiences writing and co-writing songs in many different genres, styles, and vocal ranges.
