First thing is first. I just had a baby, and I’m also an employee for Columbine and Company! I absolutely love to sing. Music is a passion of mine. I have dabbled with piano and clarinet in school, but I'm not skilled enough to teach more than the very basics (fingering, tonguing, reading music, etc). I have been in choir (school, not church) since third grade have been in three advanced choirs in that time, two being mixed and one being all women's. My schedule is slightly complicated. Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced
I’ve been out of high school for 3 years now, but I can still teach accordingly. As stated in my bio, I have a baby, and I also have roommates. A student can expect lots of encouragement as well as constructive criticism.
Formal Education:
I was in school choir third grade all the way to my senior year in high school. Of those years, I was in advanced choirs for six. I also participated in large group (competition), solo and ensembles (rating), and Adams State Honor choir (2 years). In each of these experiences, we were taught how to utilize our voices to be better singers. I had many different teachers and was taught different styles of singing.
Private Education:
I had friends that had private singing tutors, and they would help me to improve my singing. My sister was also going to school to be a music teacher when I was a sophomore in high school and got different tips from her. I sang in various church choirs and was taught, as well, by the music instructors, specifically to put emotion and spirit into my singing.
Performing Experience:
I have been on stage to sing so many times, most as a choir group. One choir group of which I was a part consisted of only 14 people (meaning, of everyone who tried out to be in the choir, only 14 people made it in). I have had solos and speaking parts in various times. I was also in drama and performed in musicals. I made the lead my sophomore year and had to sing by myself and with other people all the time, both in front of an audience and by myself (that is where I successfully learned how to fill a room with my voice). As another experience, I had a solo in a church performance that many other girls tried for and wanted. It was a big stage, and there were a lot of people watching (both showings).
Experience Teaching:
In middle school, when the music teacher was not working, she would have me and another girl lead and teach the class the song(s) we were singing (with a substitute there, as was school policy). I had a couple other opportunities in high school to do so as well but not as many. Most of my teaching experience was (informal) when another student would ask me questions on how to be more confident (as I was one of the loudest and most confident singers in most classes) and louder. I was also very good at sight-reading, and other people would often follow my lead when we were singing/practicing (we had to sight-read at large group and were rated by how well/bad we were).
