Matt T
Drum Lessons, Orchestral Lessons
Home or Studio
25 Years
Starting in the elementary school band, I have been performing for about 20 years in some form of percussion setting. Whether it be in an award-winning chamber group, a local orchestra, DCI or the local rock band; I have gained much experience in my years. I have achieved many things but my greatest joy is seeing students that I have trained rise up and do great things with their talents.
Matt T has over 25 years of music experience in the Lubbock area.
Matt T is proficient in and teaches Drum Lessons, Orchestral Lessons .Degree and Field of Study:
What to expect in my Drum Lessons
Everyone wants to be a rockstar and jump straight on the drum set. This is not how we roll. We start at the snare drum with rudiments, reading music and technique. I will not allow my students to form bad habits by skipping a solid foundation. This will cause bad habits eventually inviting poor musical execution and physical pain.
Formal Education:
Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville Music Education
Private Education:
Private percussion lessons with Brian "Choppy" Massimo from 1996 to 2004. Studied with Jerry Bolen from 2004 to 2008.
Performing Experience:
High school rock bands-performed on Chicago stage at Vans Warped Tour in 2003. Joined the Zion Chamber Orchestra and the Waukegan Symphony at age 14. Marched with the La Crosse Blue Stars in 2003 on snare drum. Played with a few rock bands in college. Principal percussionist for SIUE Wind Symphony and Principal Timpanist for SIUE Orchestra. Praise and worship drummer since 2008. Toured with Dan Brown Jr in 2009. Toured with The Prophecy Show: A Tribute to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra from 2013 to 2016. Performed for a headline show in Branson, MO with "A Trans-Siberian Experience."
Experience Teaching:
I used to teach private lessons in high school as well as a few years in college. With performing and working, I did not have much time to teach again. But I am now ready to pick it back up.

Great Guy, Great Drummer, Great Communicator
I first met Matthew T. on a tour with a Trans Siberian Orchestra tribute band, and was super impressed by his drumming. He had a two minute drum solo in the middle of the set, and he brought the audience to their feet every night. We'd literally have to stop the show while the audience applauded! Matt hadn't just pulled the solo out of his hat every night. He'd spent 6 months creating, fine-tuning, and practicing every part of it until it was something that would blow audience's minds. Matt brings that same level of finesse to everything he does. He knows how to communicate his passion for music to others, and he's one of the clearest teachers I've ever seen. When he was working at AT&T, I remember him breaking down our insanely complicated phone policy in a way that even a dumb musician like me could understand. If you all get the chance to hire him, do it. He'll be one of your hardest workers, most loyal employees, and most loved by your students. Eric Barfield wrote on Wed, 24 Aug 2016
