20+ Years
I grew up in Columbia, Missouri and started playing bass when I was 10 years old. Learning the basics in orchestras and bands in school eventually lead to me playing bass at jazz gigs around town several years later while continuing my classical studies in private lessons. After that, I studied jazz bass at the University of North Texas in Denton. In school I not only played jazz but branched out into many genres like rock, metal, folk, bluegrass, country, funk, and experimental music. After school I moved to Chicago to play music full time and ended up finding teaching as another way for me to use music to make a living. After 5 years in Seattle where I was working as Music Director of a school I returned to Chicago again to play music full time. Since coming back in 2017 I have been mostly on the road touring with musicians like Ryley Walker and Circuit Des Yeux. Currently trying to build back up my student base because I will be touring less and love to share what I know about music with others! My approach for lessons is to let the needs and wants of the student dictate my curriculum. I would treat a beginner playing for fun differently than I would an experienced player looking to add new concepts to their repertoire. I will cater the pace and content of the lessons based on what YOU want to learn as to maximize the enjoyment of the time you spend playing your instrument. It's called "playing music"! It should be fun and well as productive!

Workd with Andrew as the General Manager of School of Rock: Bellevue
Hello! Working with Andrew proved to show he is an excellent musician with an extraordinary amount of musical knowledge. Both in theory & technique but also just real world tried and true experience. He has great work ethic and was someone I could always count on. He was a dedicated Music Director who was respected by the staff and put care, thought, and preparation into each of his students. His students and parents were extremely loyal to him which shows his ability to connect and relate to the student, but also that the parent is seeing their child learn and grow musically. I can't speak highly enough about Andrew. Rhiannon Healy wrote on Wed, 20 Jul 2016
Andrew
I was lucky enough to study guitar with Andrew for nearly 4 years. He is just a wonderful teacher. He is that rare individual who combines incredible talent, wide ranging knowledge, and the ability to teach all of it to an experienced player or a complete novice. He reawakened my love of playing guitar, and reminded me why I even started in the first place. Finally, I think the world of Andrew. He is this big guy with the gentle heart and full of integrity. I trusted him with my sons. If you have the chance to study with Andrew then as they say in the Nike commercial.....JUST DO IT!!!!! Bobby Binford wrote on Thu, 21 Jul 2016
