About Me

Austin is a saxophonist, composer, educator, and bandleader hailing from St. Louis Missouri. He has been gigging professionally since 2008 in various bands and styles ranging from jazz to pop to R&B and every style in between. Austin began taking music lessons at the age of 8 on guitar and soon after found music to be one of his greatest passions in life. His continued study eventually led him to pick up the saxophone at age 11. This instrument proved to be his greatest vehicle for expression and led him to eventually pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, which he completed in 2012. Throughout his musical career Austin has worked with such jazz giants as Victor Lewis, Donald Harrison, Rodney Whitaker, and Marquise Hill. Though he is adept at performing in any style, jazz music is his greatest passion. Aside from performing, Austin has also worked as an educator/clinician to younger musicians at High schools in and around the greater Chicago area. Austin recently received his Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies from Northern Illinois University where he served as a Graduate Assistant. While at NIU, he had the privilege to conduct the University Jazz Ensemble, teach improvisation skills in a combo setting, and teach Jazz Appreciation to undergraduate non-music majors. He has since moved back to the St. Louis area and has been freelancing, teaching lessons, and has recently joined the Funky Butt Brass Band.

Austin C has over 9 years of music experience in the Madison area.

Austin C is proficient in and teaches Guitar Lessons, Orchestral Lessons .

Since 2012 I have been a regular performer at the Illinois Music Educators Association. From 2008-2013 I worked regularly in the St. Louis area as a sideman for big bands, rhythm and blues bands, small jazz groups, and several well-established wedding bands, including Lenny Klinger’s Galaxy and Griffin and the Gargoyles. I have also led my own Jazz Quartet since 2012 that regularly gigs both in St. Louis and in the Chicago area. Review:

Excellent Instructor

Austin is not only a one-of-a-kind instructor, but a great person. He meets students in their current skill level and challenges them to improve in a fun and energizing environment. I highly recommend Austin as both a private saxophone instructor and a jazz ensemble instructor! Trina wrote on Mon, 20 Jun 2016
