About Me

Maryanne has garnered international attention for her virtuosity, creativity and command of her instrument producing rich lush phrasing and dynamic programming. Her international travels and ongoing practice and studies on diverse musical cultures has become part of the driving force behind her performances. Her travels to over 26 countries including Hong Kong, Italy, Germany, Mexico, Central America, Hawaii, Thailand, South India, Venezuela, Mumbai, Cuba and Brazil during the past 30 years has become the fabric and force of her insight into musical cultures. In December 2014, Maryanne traveled to Samoa and Auckland New Zealand to research the rich heritage and tradition of the voice. Last December she was invited to perform in Sydney in a performance of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto with the University of Sydney Chamber Orchestra. In 2014 Maryanne was invited to appear at the International Clarinet Association Conference in Baton Rouge. One reviewer touted her performance of the Resanovic Alt.Music.Ballistix (for clarinet and tape) as "un-surrealistic and technically demanding performance". During her music studies in the New England region she played with the Halifax Nova Scotia Summer Festival Orchestra and Tanglewood Festival Orchestra under the direction of Aaron Copland (1978-79). Reviews throughout USA, Italy and Germany lauded her interpretive strength and beautiful sound categorizing Maryanne as a first class clarinetist. The years 1 were rife with Broadway Theater tours including Phantom of the Opera, Carousel (USA) and West Side Story with Wolfgang Bocksch Concerts in Germany and Italy. During Boston Opera’s 1978-79 season, Maryanne was appointed co-principal as 2nd clarinet/bass clarinet in the production of Michael Tippett’s “The Ice Break” with Boston Opera Orchestra under the direction of Sarah Caldwell. Maryanne was invited to join the roster for Prestige Classical Artists which led to a world premiere concert at Merkin Hall in New York with Trio di Buson in December 2008. As a versatile clarinetist, she is active as an educator, clinician, orchestral musician and soloist and currently holds principal chairs with Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra, Federal Way and the Northwest Mahler Festival Orchestra.. Maryanne began studies at Boston Conservatory earning her Bachelor Degree and Master Degree at University of Massachusetts. Her teachers include Harold Wright, Attilio Poto, Peter Hadcock and Gino Cioffi in Boston Massachusetts and William O. Smith.
