I began teaching at a fairly early age and moved to teaching privately over 7 years ago. I have a deep passion for music and the guitar and do my best to instill that same passion in new and experienced players alike. Throughout my playing career I have participated in numerous ensembles including jazz bands, classical groups and quartets, as well as solo performance groups. I currently am an active musician playing in a progressive metal band called Dissona.
I am extremely thorough when it comes to my teaching style. I make sure the student has a clear and concise understanding of not only the how but also the why. There are easy ways to do accomplish things on the guitar and there are the correct ways. Unfortunately, what is right is not always easy!
I try to keep my curriculum fun and interesting as well. Every student is different and I do my best to gain an understanding of every individual and build a lesson plan best suited for that individual.

Hello, I started taking lessons from Matt in my late 50's. He showed a lot a patience teaching an older person with 5 thumbs. Not only did we follow a lesson plan but Matt took the time to teach me additional information not in the lesson books such as the different modes, all the pentatonic forms and how they fit in with songs. Matt is an extremely talented musician. He has a wide variety of styles and techniques that gear to all levels of students. His patient manner makes learning from him stress free.
