Mell developed a love for music when he was 5 years old when The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were just getting popular. Mell would sing on his picnic table holding a pretend microphone while singing 8 days a week and satisfaction. Music was always a part of his life as his mother played organ many of the hit songs of her day; Mell would lay on the floor and just listen to the music coming from her instrument. When Mell was 16 he got his first guitar and started learning basic Mel Bay songs. When Mell turned 18 he was handed the Bass guitar by a friends and was told to learn how to play and He did; this was in Norman Oklahoma and thus joined his first three piece rock n roll band called Green Dragon Dreams. After a couple years of playing Hendrix, Zappa, Al Dimieola, Santana, James Gang, and many others He moved out to California. It wasn't untll 1995 that Mell founded a band called Street Called Straight and began writing music. He left the band in 2000 and began the process of trying to find a band he liked. Mell has been in at least 20 different bands since that time and is currently the bass player for Skynyrds Innyrds and The Cory Wilkens Band in San Diego. Mell also does solo acoustic guitar shows around the city. Music is part of Mell's everyday life; writing songs is part of his passion and just released an eclectic collections of songs; it can be reviewed at The album is currently is the post production phase and will be released March 27th 2015--his grand-daughters first birthday.
