I think an advantage I have in making a connection with students is that I am able to connect with students on current pop culture that is relevant to their lives. Though I am classically trained in music, my taste in music is quite broad. I am very active in performing and have done hundreds of professional jobs with various rock/pop groups. This experience and popular music sensibility gives me an advantage in creating lesson plans that are relevant to students musical tastes and interests. Connecting popular music with music education is something that I am very passionate about.
