Cheers aspiring musicians!!!
I am originally from Cape Town South Africa and have been a piano player since I was about 9. I'm a singer/songwriter/composer and play keyboards and piano with my own music project as well as for a few bands in the Dallas area. I appreciate all types of music and love learning new things, and I think the best way to learn is through sharing. I am a lot of fun when it comes to music and highly stress that all my students relax and approach music because they love it and want to learn about it, immerse themselves in it, and express themselves through it. For me music has been a very very rewarding existence in my life and I am very passionate about it and hope to pass it on to those of you who I teach. I'm very patient and know that it takes time to acquire new skills and hobbies. I had about 7 different piano teachers when I was learning- mainly because I love improvisation and they couldn't tolerate it- improvisation in music is an absolute asset- so feel free to improvise and enjoy music when you play it!!! It's always fun to have your own variation on a song, and when it comes to writing your own music, you'll be more open-minded and flexible and willing to experiment- but don't get me wrong, structure is definitely an asset too. I have a couple of synthesizers so if you don't have an actual piano or access to an instrument let me know ahead of time and I'll bring mine with me to lessons. I love to utilize computer programs with music- its a great tool if you want to learn about producing. I can teach about things like that, songwriting, composing, and much more. I love what I do when it comes to music and look forward to teaching my students.
