Hi, my name is Alexy. I am a pianist from New York City. I have been a student of music since I can remember. My musical influences include Chopin, every pianist's favorite, Beethoven, and Rachmaninoff. I also enjoy other genres such as rock, jazz, etc. My teaching style can best be described as encouraging. Making mistakes and being frustrated is part of the process. In my lessons, you can expect to learn the inside and out of your instrument, practice techniques, chord structure analysis, how to "understand music," musical vocabulary, and eventually having the tools to learn any piece or song you like! I like to tell my students you're always a half step away from the right note! My favorite thing about teaching is watching your progress and seeing someone finally get that "ah-ha!" moment. My students love my passion for music and proficiency in my instrument. I primarily teach piano, but I can also teach song writing & guitar. Beginner -
It takes a lot to play guitar well, but we will ease into it. We'll learn chord shapes, notes, string names, correct hand posture, & transitioning from chord to chord to get you able to play songs. You'll pick any 4 chord song (will be explained what that is in the lesson) and we'll work on it till you can play it on your own. Scales will be practiced to get our speed and finger independence up and running. We will build calluses on our fingers so be prepared for a little discomfort at first. you'll get it in no time!
What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons
Beginner -
Get your notebook and pen ready. We're gonna be breaking down some of your favorite songs and figuring out what makes them great. We will learn about rhyme scheme, hyperbole, rhythm, alliteration and other forms of poetic elements that make lyrics great. You will eventually make your own song. I will provide the instrumentation and i will guide you into making your first song.
What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate
Beginner: There is a lot to cover but we will break it down slowly. One note at a time, one finger at a time, one step at a time. Scales will be your best friend until we work our way up to a song. You will learn correct fingering, posture, basic sight reading, how to identify notes, and some sweet sweet Hanon exercises. You will pick one song to work towards. Intermediate: We'll work on your phrasing, expression, and delivery of your piano playing. More advanced topics in sight-reading music, harder repertoire, more engaging finger exercises, chord analysis, & basic Improvisation.
