Hi, my name is Dylan and I am a Voice Instructor from Denver. I have been a student of music for nearly my entire 33-year life, starting with singing Irish folk songs with my family as a child, continuing through college, and multiple years working as a professional performer. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, which was focused entirely in opera, but now I sing mostly in musical theater, punk, metal, and pop. My teaching style can best be described as compassionate and attentive. Singing is a scary thing, so I strive to develop a comfortable environment so my students feel safe expressing their talents! In my lessons, you can expect to learn all the core principles of singing starting with proper breath and diaphragm management, along with learning to sing with performative intent. My favorite thing about teaching is seeing a student perform a song they once felt was impossible, and see their newfound confidence. My favorite performances have been Archibald from The Secret Garden and a very awesome David Bowie Halloween gig. My students love that I love learning about their favorite songs and singers. I primarily teach pop and musical theater, but I can also teach opera. My approach as a teacher is to help students foster confidence and enjoyment with singing. If you're considering taking lessons with Dylan, stop considering and just do it.
Dylan is without a doubt the best voice teacher I have ever had, and it starts with this--I am not afraid to sing in front of him. I'm not embarrassed to make a fool out of myself, which I know I have to do to get better, because Dylan is so non-judgmental, and chill, and good-humored. He just brings good vibes. His presence is comforting and supportive, and personally I know that I need that more than anything, so if that were all he was offering as a teacher it would already be enough. But he also has serious experience and knowledge, not just as a singer and he is a phenomenal singer himself but also as a teacher. Singing, and breath, and tone, are all hard things to talk about, but Dylan is so great at explaining and demonstrating, and finding other ways to communicate concepts when the first try doesn't work. After the very first lesson I've already completely changed the way I sing in objectively positive ways. I already feel more comfortable and confident singing other people's music, and my own music! Working with Dylan inspires me, it makes me feel like I can actually be the singer I want to be, and have the voice that I imagine myself having. Our voice is such a vulnerable part of us, especially when we want to change it, to strengthen it, to sing louder and more confidently, to put ourselves out there... And it is such a gift to find a teacher that I can trust to want the same things for me that I want for myself, and to trust him to be able to help me get there. Highly Recommended!
Dylan is an amazing teacher and a wonderful person! His kind demeanor and knowledge of vocal technique make for a productive and positive learning environment. In the time we have worked together I have gained more control of my diaphragm and pitch consistency. Working with him has helped with my confidence and ability to sing with others and make it sound good! I am a casual/intermediate vocalist but I can confidently say I felt much better about my vocal ability after just a few lessons with Dylan. I have talked with other more advanced vocalists that study with him and they hold him in similar regard.
