Hi, my name is Shavona and I am a vocalist from Raleigh, NC. I have been a student of music for 20 plus years. My musical influences include H.E.R, Lianne La Havas, Tory Kelly, Jacob Collier, Moonchild and more. I also enjoy playing my guitar. My teaching style can best be described as hands on. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I love to help my students see the best in themselves and help them unlock their inner voices. This expression helps us connect with the world around us and better understand ourselves. In my lessons, you can expect to learn vocal control, diction, breathing techniques, posture, endurance, vocal placement and tone. I like to tell my students that they have the ability to be absolutely anything, if we work hard for what we want. Taking the first step is the hardest! My favorite thing about teaching is the joy that comes from helping my student reach their musical aspirations and learning from my amazing students! My most memorable performances were opening up for Samhot at the Blue Note in Charleston and a video of me singing a solo with the collegiate choir at Lincoln University that went viral on several social media platforms. My students love that my lessons are fun and engaging. I primarily teach voice, but I can also teach beginner piano. My approach as a teacher is to meet students wherever they are and build on their strengths. This allows us to build the confidence to tackle the areas where we have weaknesses.
