Hi, my name is Cerise and I’m an artist from Philadelphia. I have been a student of music for 15 years. My musical influences include Audra McDonald, Florence Quivar, Tamela Mann, Ella Fitzgerald, Jill Scott and Aretha Franklin. I also enjoy Choral music. My teaching style can best be described as adaptive. Meaning I’m able to adjust for each of my students. We’re all different and I teach to compliment your strengths and overcome challenges. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I believe music is an expression of each person’s truth and that how we appreciate music is our way of interacting with our truest selves. In my lessons, you can expect to learn how to apply classical singing techniques to any genre of music, how to breathe correctly, how to control volume, tone, pitch and vibrato, and how to interpret and communicate with/through music. I like to tell my students that we’ll be dancing and using props in our lessons. My favorite thing about teaching is getting to learn from and grow with each of my students. My favorite performance was a big show I did at World Cafe Live a while ago where I was the headliner. My students love that I take time and make sure they understand why we approach certain ideas in a particular way. I primarily teach voice, but I can also teach songwriting and stage presence.
