Hi, my name is Joseph and I am a teacher from San Deigo. I have been a student of music for over 30 years. My musical influences include blues, rock, and jazz, and I also enjoy classical. My teaching style can best be described as flexible yet fine tuned to your own learning style. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I am patient but like to encourage my students to break down their own barriers. In my lessons, you can expect to learn to enjoy pushing your own boundaries to get audible results fast. I like to tell my students to listen with their inner ear and try to produce a pleasing sound. My favorite thing about teaching is watching students grow. My favorite performance was watching Carole King in Hamburg Germany. My students love that I focus on their challenges. I primarily teach blues and rock, but I can also teach fingerstyle and songwriting. My approach as a teacher is to listen to your own influences and the unique sound you're going for. What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
Beginner
I offer a direct and creative approach to the physicality of playing the guitar. I try to adapt my teaching methodology to the student's own learning style. I like for the student to start generating their own progressions and target melodies and riffs as soon as possible. It doesn't need to be always 'by the book,' but I've got lots of them, so you don't have to run out and find them. : Ideally, we should be up and running as soon as possible and trading licks and melodic ideas. Main thing is to 'think musically,' so that all that follows is to find the right chords and add the right words.
What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate
I approach songwriting as a mode of self-expression. Songwriting to me is a way to get your ideas and express your feelings and ultimately to develop your own unique musical palette. There are some basic road maps and guidelines to follow and to 'learn,' but ultimately, you'll have to throw these away and develop your own method of getting to the point musically. Everybody has their own unique journey. And remember, it's not the destination but the journey that makes everything resonate along a pleasing trajectory.
