About Me

My name is Lee. Music has been a part of my life since I was born.  Both my parents are professional singers and music teachers.  My mother, Deborah Williams is a Professor of Voice at Chicago State University and has been teaching private voice lessons and piano lessons for the last 25 years.  My father, Bradley Williams is a World Class Opera Singer and has sung all over the world for the last 25 years.  He is currently a Professor of Voice at The University of Oklahoma.  I started playing piano when I was 5 and took lessons from my mother and other private piano teachers until I decided to switch to trumpet in the 6th grade.  I played trumpet for 6 years in school where I ended up realizing what instrument I wanted to play for the rest of my life.  The first time I saw our bass player in jazz band play, I had no idea what he was doing because my ear was not attuned to such a low registered instrument.  I just thought it sounded cooler than any other instrument I heard before.  My parents bought me my first bass when I was 13 and my dad started a praise band at my church with my mom on piano and my younger brother on drums.  I have been performing ever since that first Sunday with my family and have ventured off into many different genres of music, performing with rock groups, progressive metal bands, country groups, jazz bands, orchestras, funk bands and cover bands of all sorts.  I graduated from Oklahoma City Community College in 2010, earning my Associates in Arts.  I am currently attending The University of Central Oklahoma pursuing a Bachelors in Music Performance and Minor in Jazz Studies.

Lee Wi is proficient in and teaches Bass Guitar Lessons .

Formal Education:

I graduated High School in 2006 in Illinois. I played trumpet in marching band, jazz band and symphonic band at school for 6 years. I graduated from junior college and earned my Associates in Arts at Oklahoma City Community College in May, 2010. I'm currently attending The University of Central Oklahoma for a degree in music performance in double bass and play with the orchestra and Latin Jazz Band there.

Private Education:

I started bass lessons when I was 13 and went through several teachers before studying with John Falstrom. He is a regular gigging musician in the South Chicago area and a well known teacher. I also studied with Don Desanto on Double Bass before moving down south after high school. Don Desanto teaches bass lessons, performs in groups in Chicago and records regularly for a living. Moving to Oklahoma I studied with two professor bass players and teachers, Michael Boyle at OCCC and Michael Geib at UCO. The majority of my bass guitar study in Oklahoma has been with Jeff Vandagriff, who was a student of Victor Wooten and considered "the" bass player to call for a gig in the Oklahoma City metro area before moving out of state.

Performing Experience:

The first groups I played bass guitar in were the praise band at my church when I was 14 and with a close group of friends in a rock group called Setonas. When I graduated high school, I moved to Houston Texas and joined an indie rock group that was signed to a small label and had just finished recording their debut album. While performing with them around state for a year, I joined two other bands which I performed with regularly and also picked up a regular Sunday church gig. The first was a jam group named "The Brandon Thomas Band" consisting of a classical keyboardist, jazz saxophonist, gospel drummer, classical cello player, lead singer/acoustic guitarist Brandon who played a lot of finger-tapping eclectic styles and two backup vocalists. The second was "Clay Farmer Band". Clay Farmer was voted the top country artist in Houston the year before I joined his group. I played SXSW in 2007 with Brandon Thomas Band. Since moving to Oklahoma, I have performed with multiple praise groups in churches, trios at bars, last call gigs for bands needing a bass player that day or the next for a gig as well as filled in at jam sessions in Norman and Oklahoma City. My current gig is with "Banana Seat" which is a cover funk/pop/dance group that has been Box Talents top gigging band for well over a decade in its genre.
