Students should expect to cover fundamental materials which are essential to song writing such as form, melody, rhythm, and lyrics. We will pick apart both classic and modern hit songs for these elements. The student will then apply what they have learned to their own songs under my my direction.

Some topics we will cover include microphones, preamps, compression, distortion, gain staging/loudness, equalization, instrumentation, harmonic series, and basic room acoustics. My most frequent genres are Rock, Pop, Metal, and Jazz, but we can focus on genres of music which the student is specifically interested in.

This includes techniques to relieve tension, reading notation, ear training, scales, arpeggios, and breathing exercises. Also, we will cover songs and styles which the student is especially interested in. By balancing these learning objectives, the student can learn at a pace which suits them, while maintaining some excitement for their progress.
