20 Years
Oscar Micheli was born on December 14th, 1972. He began his studies at an early age; in late 1995, he departed from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music. While a student, Oscar enhanced his passion and understanding for music, which helped him develop his own musical perspective; graduating in 1999 in Jazz Composition and Arranging. Since graduating Oscar has had the blessing of working with some of the most innovating and prestigious names in the world of music. The list includes: Patricia Pereyra, Guarionex Aquino, Grammy winners Chichi Peralta and Juan Luis Guerra, Xiomara Fortuna, as well as many others. He also became a professor at the National Conservatory of Music, Micheli and his trio have participated in many local and international events, some being: The South Florida Dominican Jazz Fest, Casa de Teatro Jazz Festival; Dominican Week in Miami, Florida; Hudson River Jazz Fest en NY, Dominican Republic Jazz Festival alongside of major players such as Arturo Sandoval, Chucho Valdes, Giovanni Hidalgo, David Sánchez, Steve Khan, Ramón Vásquez, Fellé Vega, Néstor Torres and others. Oscar Micheli Trio blends intimate Pan-Dominican rhythms with many Jazz styles, which in turn result in a warm sophisticated elegant mixture of sounds. “Swimming Notes” (2004) was arranged, produced, and partially composed by Oscar Micheli. The album became a highly successful domestic release, as it went on to receive airplay and artistic recognition in the US, Venezuela, as well as in a few European countries. In August 2013 he released his new album ̈A New World ̈, consisting of ten original compositions by Micheli, using the colours and influences of Caribbean and World Music, mixing acoustic, the natural with electronics and synthesised sounds thus creating new and original sounds for each tune. Each song is a musical and spiritual dialogue that represents the transformation and the path that will take us to a NEW WORLD. Besides his playing and touring, Oscar is currently producer, arranger and collaborator of artists such as: Chichi Peralta, Fellé Vega, Eric Santiago, Patricia Pereyra, Jacob Desvarieux. He is a professor at the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña (UNPHU), and is the author of Ear Training vol.s 1, 2 & 3 which are used at the university. He received a lifetime achievement recognition in the Dominican Republic at the 2017 International Jazz Day celebrations. Mr. Micheli is a Casio Endorsed Artist.
