Hi, my name is Melissa! I began playing the acoustic guitar at the age of 15. Soon after that, I was introduced to the classical guitar when I joined my middle school's guitar ensemble. I decided to join my high school guitar ensemble which I participated in all 4 years. I was determined to make music become a bigger part of my life, so I applied to Belmont University in Nashville, TN where I graduated with a Music Business degree. I developed my skills further by taking private lessons while writing and recording my own music for fun. I joined the Belmont Guitar Ensemble and played in several live performances ensembles in the School of Music Auditorium. Although it sounds like I may specialize in classical guitar, I can also teach acoustic if thats what the student prefers. My philosophy is that talent is just an accumulation of time and practice. If you are shown the right exercises and you take the time to practice them and repeat, then you will be great!

What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
Beginner -
My philosophy is that talent is just time and practice. If you are shown the right exercises and you take the time to practice them, then you will be great! I am excited to share with my students how incredible it can be to know how to play an instrument. You can carry that amazing skill around with you for the rest of your life and I want that for each of them.

I have been taking guitar lessons with Melissa for a little over a month now, via Skype. I was skeptical about how online lessons would work, but so far has proven to be effective. I have tried to learn guitar from other instructors but it just never clicked and always ended up quitting. My time with Melissa has been a completely different experience, once I discussed this with her. She is particularly keen on keeping me motivated so that I don't feel a desire to quit. I can actually see myself improving in ways I was never able to with other instructors. She is a different breed of American-an absolutely exceptional player, fantastic instructor and focuses on building the fundamentals. I am a 48-year old English man and my window of opportunity to be a hair metal rock star or a world-class classical composer closed many years ago, but during lesson she makes me laugh because she makes those 30-minutes feel as though I am living that dream.
