Megan C.
Orchestral Lessons
Studio
Hi everyone! My name is Meganand I am a current college student at Arizona State University. My passion for music and the violin began when I was just 11 years old. I started in my elementary school orchestra program, but soon after I joined an Arizona State University (ASU) youth orchestra program and continued until I entered high school.
My time at the ASU youth program, allowed me to advance my skills and prepare me for high school orchestra. Throughout high school I preformed with my school’s top orchestra group, Symphonic Strings. I was given the opportunity to travel across the country various times to perform and compete against other o I also took private lessons to refine my skills and gain a deeper understanding of music theory. My experience with both group programs and private lessons has allowed me to truly understand what a student needs to improve upon their skills based on their current abilities.
Degree and Field of Study:
What to expect in my Orchestral Lessons
I design my lessons for beginners who are looking to improve upon their violin skills by focusing first on technique and music theory. With that being said, I feel that posture, bowing, finger placement, and reading sheet music cover the basic foundations necessary to become a successful musician. For the first few lessons, this will make up 75% of the lesson and the other 25% will be putting these techniques into practice by playing music the child is working on in class or through another program. If your child is not currently in an orchestra or strings program I have plenty of sheet music of various degrees of difficulty provided as well. I believe that the key to a successful music lesson is challenging the student while still creating a fun and friendly environment for the student. I myself have been the student and I understand that the passion for music is created when there is patience and understanding towards the student’s learning style.
Formal Education:
9 years of experience playing the violin through various youth programs and private lessons.
Private Education:
Four years of receiving private lessons.
Performing Experience:
• Three solos and four group performances with Arizona State University youth orchestra at Gammage Theater • School program orchestra performances • National competitions at the high school level
Experience Teaching:
I have not formally taught music lessons, but I have plenty of experience teaching children since I have taught children aged 1-14 swim lessons.
