Like many musicians I started playing music for one reason. After 16 years of playing, performing and teaching that one reason is lost to me. Like us, music is always evolving. This is why learning an art can be so productive to all aspects of our life. I like to teach the way my influences taught me. Just play! Knowledge and understanding will help your advance. Learning to enjoy music will provide you with motivation and joy. I approach begging lessons with an open model. You will learn healthy technique, fundamentals, and your roll as a bass player. But from the start I want you to make it your own. I will help you pick songs to work on that you want to play. I will help you find your own techniques and style because music should be personal. For more advanced players we will focus on what makes a great bassline. Fundamentals like space, rhythmic weight, groove, and articulation are often overlooked. We can focus on chord scales all day but notes make up a small part of a song. But don't worry we will play with some advanced right hand techniques that we all love to learn. There is no wrong way to approach music. As long as you are not hurting yourself or the instrument you are making music. So lets make some noise! When possible I prefer to use my studio space. I have drums, amps and instruments that can help develop young players in a group setting. There is also a cozy waiting area for those who would like to stay and listen in.
