About Me

Hi, my name is Chris and I am a guitarist originally from Houston but living here in Austin. I have been a student of music for 34 years. My musical influences include Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix and many others. My teaching style can best be described as kind, patient and customized to the needs and aptitudes of my students. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I try to find what really motivates my students to play and approach the lessons from that perspective; making things challenging enough to improve but always fun! In my lessons, you can expect to learn songs from the start, some theory and music reading and technical approaches to playing. I like to tell my students that the real fun from learning music comes from the feeling of accomplishment when you learn to play something you couldn't play before. My favorite thing about teaching is helping people overcome their challenges and experience the magic of playing music. My favorite performance was in St. Lucia at a large outdoor venue with the ocean behind us and wonderful receptive audience. My students love that I am flexible with my approach and always strive to find the perfect balance, never having things be too difficult or easy-just the right challenge to keep moving forward. I primarily teach guitar, but I can also teach bass and ukulele. My approach as a teacher is to understand what my students are hoping to get out of lessons and then finding the best way to help them. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon!

What to expect in my Bass Guitar Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate

We will typically go over basic bass technique for electric bass in the right and left hands and quickly begin playing simple rock and pop songs. For more advanced players we can go over more challenging bass lines and learn about walking bass lines in jazz and blues.

What to expect in my Guitar Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

I have lots of experience teaching both beginners and more advanced players. With beginners we typically start with simple melodies and the basic chords and move into strumming and more chords as strength is built. With consistent practice it is surprising how quickly you can begin playing lots of songs with just a few chords under your belt. With more advanced players we often work on soloing by learning famous guitar solos or look at ways to apply theory and fretboard mechanics to improvising on the guitar.
