Hi, my name is Laura and I am a professional music teacher and singer/songwriter living in Jacksonville Fl. I have been a student of music for over 30+ years. My musical influences include classical, contemporary, rhythm and blues, non-secular, jazz, rock, you name it! I also enjoy bluegrass! My teaching style can best be described as blended and inclusive. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I am passionate about what I do. Music whether it be teaching or performing is literally my life. In my lessons, you can expect to learn true musicianship by learning how to play and sing music in all 12 major and minor keys, reading notes, and musical theory. I like to tell my students it is my job to help them come into their own as expressive players who can tell stories through music. I also tell my students it is their responsibility to select a consistent and appropriate daily practice time so that we can work together to reach his/her musical goals. My favorite thing about teaching is watching my students grow and attain a love for a variety of music genres while developing true musicianship. I have been very fortunate in my career to have worked with amazing artists such as Diane Reeves, Carl Anderson, Bobby Mc Ferrin. Most recently I fulfilled a lifelong dream of performing at Carnegie Hall with a choral ensemble celebrating the King's Singers 50th Anniversary. My students love that I am positive, proactive, and truly passionate about what I do. I primarily teach beginning and intermediate piano and vocal lessons, but I can also teach beginning guitar. My approach as a teacher is to teach proper technique and fundamentals, provide constructive feedback, and motivate my students to become proficient at their craft. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon!
Laura Y. has over 25+ years of music experience in the Jacksonville area.
Laura Y. is proficient in and teaches Keyboard and Piano Lessons, Vocal Lessons, Song Writing Lessons .Degree and Field of Study:
What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons
Students will learn to set aside a dedicated time each day to compose. It is also important to learn how to play and diagram others songs to let their influences seep into one's own creative process without duplicating them. Freestyle writing, while training the mind to discover tools for new ideas which can help reveal crutches and patterns relied on too often. Encouragement to collaborate and write with others.
What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
Do my part to help student set and reach musical goals. Teach students how to practice effectively. Accommodate students learning style, set an appropriate standard of progress. Use a well-rounded and creative approach to teaching musical skills and making music. Optimize lesson minutes including beginning and ending lessons in a timely way. Follow the policy guidelines regarding Taylor Robinson music. Provide fun and meaningful lessons.
What to expect in my Vocal Lessons
A student can expect me to teach proper technique regarding the functioning of the voice, diaphram, larnx, and tongue formations. Instruction on repertoire as well as a full understanding of the physical energy that is needed to develop the muscles to acccomplish dramatic singing while on stage without causing students to push or potentially harm their vocal chords. Instructions on various styles of vocal singing and performance, emphasizing proper pitch and learning how to control and use the voice as an instrument. It takes time to learn all the aspects of singing. A student must be willing to practice, really study, work through things and be patient. Too many want instant fame. Good singing and technique does not happen that way.
