I believe that each student is unique and has individual needs, abilities, personalities and character. My goal as an educator is to allow each of my students to grow and develop as musicians to the fullest extent. Satisfying and educational musical experiences will help each of them grow into well-rounded and well-adjusted adults. I receive a great deal of personal satisfaction from watching young musicians grow and develop during their educational years, not only because I can contribute to their growth musically, but also because and understanding and patient teacher can help students grow emotionally. By being firm, yet fair, a teacher can gain a student's respect, and by having a caring and understanding professional attitude, a teacher can easily motivate students to perform to the best of their abilities.

To whom it may concern, It is my pleasure to recommend Gil for your position. I took private saxophone lessons with Gil when I was a student at Bowdoin College from 1. Gil was an excellent and formative teacher for me, and I have no doubt that he would be an excellent fit for your position. My weekly lessons with Gil were among the best music education experiences I have had. Gil has an extensive knowledge of the saxophone and saxophone repertoire, and he has a clear vision of how he wants every piece or assignment to sound. His teaching style felt very personally-tailored; rather than use a one-size-fits-all approach to things like embouchure and technique, Gil was willing to leave things alone that he felt worked for my approach, even if they weren’t entirely conventional. Gil also helped me to become a better composer; he encouraged me to bring drafts of compositions to my lessons, and he was always willing to give helpful feedback. On a personal level, Gil is one of the most entertaining teachers I have encountered. Our strong rapport was one of the most important reasons that his teaching was so effective for me; I felt consistently challenged but never badgered or belittled, and I always looked forward to going to lessons. Moreover, Gil always invited me to bring in whatever jazz I was listening to at the time, and I always appreciated his willingness to act as a sounding board to help me figure out what it was I liked about various artists. I grew immensely as a musician over my four years of college, and Gil was one of the major reasons why. I also had the opportunity to learn of Gil’s passion for music education in his day job as a primary and secondary school music teacher. He has run seemingly every type of ensemble, be it chorus, concert band, jazz band, or bell choir. He’s passionate about the students, about teaching, and about sharing his love of music. In short, I wholeheartedly recommend Gil for your position. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions. Tom Wright wrote on Mon, 30 Nov -0001
