"Visually and vocally stunning" American Soprano, Kathryn McKellar, is quickly establishing a sterling reputation for her "beautiful vocal quality, sensitive musicianship, and excellent connection to her text." Her 2008-09 season included appearances as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Dorinda in Handel's Orlando, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, Oberto in Alcina, and Poppea in OperaHub's dramatically innovative production of L'Incoronazione di Poppea. During the summer of 2010, Kathryn traveled to Weimar, Germany for her German opera debut as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. This Fall she looks forward to performing as Mrs. Nordstrom in A Little Night Music with Metro Stage Company, and covering the role of Beth in Little Women with Boston Opera Collaborative.
Kathryn has performed in various recitals and performing arts projects along the east coast. The season also saw Kathryn as recitalist in Voyage a Paris-Songs and Arias inspired by the "City of Light" premiered in Cambridge at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and as a soloist in Diva Day Inc.'s inaugural benefit concert raising funds for Jane Doe Inc, the Massachusetts Coalition against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. This season Ms. McKellar served as resident music director for the MIT Gilbert and Sullivan Players, and was the assistant stage director in Zemlinsky's powerful one-act opera, "Der Zwerg." The Texas native originated the role of Blanch July 2007 in the world premiere of My Other, MySelves with OperaWorks in Los Angeles. Among other recent engagements, Ms. McKellar performed in Boston Opera Collaborative's "Tonight, Tonight: Light Opera, Operetta, and Music Theater Gems", The Boston Conservatory's production of L'elisir d'amore covering Adina and Le Nozze di Figaro covering La Contessa. Kathryn has been featured in concert and opera programs throughout Boston, including The Boston Conservatory, The Brookline Chorus, Berklee School of Music, The Boston Opera Collaborative, and was a 2006 winner of the Conservatory's Chamber Music Honors Competition.
In 2005, she graduated summa cum laude from Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia, where she performed frequently with the University's Opera Studio, Hollins University Opera Outreach, the Hollins Repertory Dance Company, the American College Dance festival, and in recital and concert works throughout the greater Roanoke area. Kathryn continues to perform concert, recital, and oratorio works in and around her hometown of Dallas. In addition to her performances in the States, Ms. McKellar has studied and performed throughout Italy with the Spoleto Vocal Arts Symposia, Accademia Internazionale della Musica, as well as Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi. Kathryn is also active in new music, dance, and film score recordings, and is featured in some of Boston's newest film projects.
