What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
The type of material we can cover is very broad including scales, arpeggios, chords, chord construction, music theory, music reading, songwriting, learning songs, technique, etc... However it's very important to me not to teach material the student is uninterested in. Music is a language and every genre has its own language. For Example: If a student wants to learn how to play bluegrass I will not waste time teaching them Jazz oriented chord voicings, bebop phrasing, and other jazz oriented things. It's not that this isn't useful/important, but it will not be the quickest route to learning to be a competent bluegrass player. Typically I like to using songs and common chord progressions and incorporate different skills we are working on into songs. This way the student learns a repertoire while learning skills. However this is up for debate and we can cover whatever the student desires. Often times teachers teach a blanket method using certain scales, chords, ect, expecting that this will miraculously result in the improvement the student desires. I am firm believer that this is not the case. It is vital that the student learn stylistically tailored skills that cater to their desires and HOW TO APPLY THESE SKILLS IN THE ACTUAL MUSIC THEY WANT TO PLAY.
