15 Years
Hi there! My name is Chris. I am a violinist who has been teaching and playing throughout Central Florida for the past 15 years. Although my training in college was primarily classical, since then I've broadened my horizons and play all manner of different genres and styles. I think it's impossible to over emphasize the importance of student-teacher communication to a student's overall success. So if you book lessons with me, you can expect a tailor-made learning experience to match your personal goals. I'm excited to learn about your personal music goals on the violin. Book lessons with me today. I can't wait to get started!
Chris R. has over 15 years of music experience in the Mount Dora area.
Chris R. is proficient in and teaches Orchestral Lessons .Degree and Field of Study:
What to expect in my Orchestral Lessons
Learning the violin, especially at the beginning, is intrinsically linked to ear training. Because violins don't have frets, it isn't enough to simply ensure that our instruments are in tune. We have to tune every note we play, while we're playing it! Sound tricky? Thankfully, we have a whole host of techniques to help make ear training work hand-in-hand with learning the violin.
Formal Education:
After graduating from Dr. Phillips High School's orchestral music magnet program as the orchestral Concert Master, I was recruited by Arthur Prano to attend Florida Southern College's new orchestral strings program in Lakeland, FL. It was an honor and pleasure to study music education and performance under Dr. Prano for four years. Afterward, in 2001, I returned to my home in Orlando, where I began to establish myself as a professional violinist and violin teacher.
Private Education:
In addition to learning violin in the classical mode preferred by most high school and collegiate programs, I have since been able to branch out into may different genres, including pop, Christian, and acoustic (singer/songwriter-style). Working with both classically-trained and self-taught musicians at skill levels all over the spectrum has lead me to greater levels of sensitivity over the years-a skill I frequently utilize in teaching.
Performing Experience:
I've performed with the Maitland Symphony Orchestra, Lakeland's Imperial Symphony Orchestra, in many different classical duos, trios and quartets. In the realm of popular music, I've performed with various singer-songwriters in Central Florida, the Aloma Baptist and First Baptist Worship Orchestras and country recording artist Abbie Lynn. Among my favorite experiences, however, was when I sang and played violin for an original music band named Hotel Hurry.
Experience Teaching:
I've worked with a wide-variety of students over the years and in every case I can honestly say that I have learned as much as I've taught. I think every student is unique and therefore must be approached in a way that works for them. As a teacher, you cannot simply find a method you enjoy using and force every student to learn using it. You have to be willing to adapt to the student's needs to be a successful violin teacher. I'm happy to say that I borrow from many different methods in my lessons and have been known to invent new ones on the spot.

Chris is awesome! Chris provides really good feed back during every lesson. He lets me know what I need to work on and tips for improving and at the same time encourages me by telling me what I am doing well in. He also is very flexible and understanding. He was even kind enough to make sheet music for me for a piece of music that I really enjoy. Thanks Chris! Reema P. wrote on Mon, 30 Nov -0001

The violin lessons provided by Mr. were excellent. He has a way of helping students feel very relaxed and comfortable. Mr. uses humor and empathy in a way that keeps students from getting discouraged by the inevitable mistakes that come with learning. I highly recommend Mr. Chris as a wonderful violin teacher. Chris is the best violin teacher I've worked with. I'm an adult student, and it was great to have an instructor that will work around my sometimes hectic schedule when necessary. Chris Robertson wrote on Tue, 25 Sep 2018

Chris was a wonderful instructor! As an adult, learning to play an instrument can be nerve-wracking but he always made me feel at ease. Chris really took his time, making sure I learned the correct way to hold the violin and bow. He has such patience and always made the learning process enjoyable. If I could have taken him with me on my move to Washington, I would still be his student! Chris Robertson wrote on Tue, 25 Sep 2018
