Yoriko has always loved music from an early age. She began playing Organ at the age of ten and continued her education at Yamaha Music school in Japan and took classes in college in the U.S. for song writing. At the age of 17, she started to teach private lessons. She continues to teach and create music classes for beginners! Her musical influences include J-pop and American pop music from 60s-70s rock'n roll and other current favorites including alternatives. She was a professional performer as a Keyboardist, Vocalist, and Dancer for several years playing surf music and oldies in Hawaii and California for several years. Yoriko's favorite thing about music is: we can express and sooth our feelings by singing, playing, and writing! Her favorite thing about teaching music is to watch students flourish and accomplish the goals. One of her favorite teaching experiences was when she helped her teenage student learned to play “Someone Like You” by Adele. This accomplishment meant a lot to his whole family! She specializes in teaching beginners of all ages for keyboard/vocal with basic music theory. When taking lessons with Yoriko you can expect to experience the joy of music. Beginner - Intermediate
Preferably, I meet with student more than once a week because of training one's voice needs to be assisted more often than every seven days. I would assess the voice and pick the songs to work on by me or student's choice. I would train tone accurately producing and breathing techniques mainly as well as how to read music some student can learn by just hearing and not by reading the notes. I have to expect much effort and patient from student. Voice lessons to accomplish anything are very similar to training for running a marathon if anyone realizesthis concept... But we'll have fun!
What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons
Beginner -
It depends on the case such as the student: brings material to get help to finish the song, wants to learn how to write a song from scratch, or needs to be assisted to develop the ideas to lead to an original song...any of these cases, I can help develop a step how to finish a song, one song at the time. I will customize the lesson to meet the needs of the student to accomplish the goal of the student.
What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
Beginner -
My keyboard lesson will be starting from very basic and the contents and level will progress according to the student's accomplishments. I would meet with the student first without any materials I would give a practice record book to determine what books and materials he/she will need. Usually I would meet weekly so that the student would have six days to practice the weekly assignment. I would give 6 months to see how the student progress to go on to the next level!
