30 Years
Hi, my name is Guy. I am a classical pianist from Phoenix, AZ. I have been a student of music for 40 years. My musical influences include first lessons from my mother starting at age 8 years. I have had several piano teachers since then including a Russian pianist named Gairman. He was very influential in Russia. I also enjoy playing the organ, Trumpet and some Guitar. I have also learned to play the Navajo Flute. My teaching style can best be described as traditional. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I believe an accomplished pianist has at his disposal Music theory. I believe in learning the concepts of memorization to edify one's learning capacity. In my lessons, you can expect to learn piano notation, correct fingering, chords, improvisation, Arpeggios, finger dexterity, and learn by the heart instead of just playing from he notes. I believe in helping the student to learn what the meaning of music discipline is. I will be able to assess your learning abilities and prod you to do excellent work. If one does not understand the lesson, we will work with it until you do. Patience is the name of the game. I believe in inspiring the student. I like to tell my students never tell yourself it's too hard. An accomplished pianist has to put his/her dues in. My favorite thing about teaching is watch a students eyes light up and say, "Oh, now I get it. My favorite performance was playing for my family at a family Reunion. My students love my sence of humor. I primarily teach Classical piano, but I can also teach, gospel and country and more. My approach as a teacher is to learn from the music and not through just piano manuals. I expect that piano practice be done each and every day. I will always know if the student didn't. Contrary to popular belief, practicing can be pleasant and can give moment of self satisfaction. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon!

What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
1. They can expect to understand each lesson before going on. Asking questions is good. 2. They need not be afraid to make mistakes, because it is through mistakes that we learn. 3. They will learn to read music and will learn a good deal of music theory. 4. They will learn some about the composers and essential music history. 5. They will learn finger exercises, to provide confidence and finger dexterity. 6, They will learn how to practice and to not waste time during practices. 7. They will have ear training. Learning to hear the parts is important to good playing. They will learn the delicacy of the notes being played. 8. They will have opportunity to play before others. Music is played so that others can hear. 9. They will have ample occasions to "do as I do," after I model. 10. They will be expected to listen to piano music from different types of media. 11. They will be expected to practice every day except for Sundays. 12. They will be expected to go to the music store and purchase the music required. 13. They will be expected to have a notebook for lesson planning and written instructions. 14. They must come with a desire to learn. 15. Missing lessons is not tolerated, except in times of illness and/or parental excuse. 16. They must listen to me conscientiously and converse with me. 17. They must try not to be shy, because they will be asked to perform and also to sing to me at times, as a teaching tool for piano learning. 18. I prefer that they not say the music is to hard. I will give them music which might first appear too hard for them to play, but practice will make the difference. 19. Studies can be done online or at home. 20. Students will be given appropriate awards from time to time.
