Luke W.
Orchestral Lessons
Home
2 Years
Luke began playing cello at the age of nine. Over the years, he developed his skills further by studying under several tutors at once, and by graduating from various art school programs. He gained performance experience in the classical and contemporary areas by playing at such venues as the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, Shepherd University Orchestra, and with Balkan camp/ensembles 2017. Though Luke can teach several different genres of music, his musical personal favorites are Jaqueline Du Pre and Zuell Bailey, which have had great influence on his style of playing. Luke loves music because of the way music seems to burst out of you and loves teaching music because we always need more creative and musical people. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned professional, Luke can help you expand and enhance your playing. Luke is excited to learn how he can help you reach your musical goals. What to expect in my Orchestral Lessons
I have a particular interest in posture and technique, as I am aware of the damages that can be done via poor technique. I am a low pressure tutor but if you're looking for somebody to really push you I can offer that as well. I have taken lessons from over four different private teachers in my eleven years of playing so I am able to offer a variety of styles and variations in playing the cello. My main goal is to instill confidence in the player, and a distinctive personal style of playing.
Formal Education:
Graduated from Barbara Ingram School for the Arts with a cello focus in 2015, graduating with a total of nine years as a classical cellist.
Private Education:
After graduating from Barbara Ingram I attended two years at Santa Fe University of Art and Design up until the universities closure in May of 2017. There I had a focus on contemporary music (balkan music and audio engineering/live sound.
Performing Experience:
I have been a performing cellist for over eleven years and a professional performing musician for two of those eleven. I have played at countless venues including the Maryland Theatre, various churches and old folks' homes as large ensembles. I have experience in both symphony orchestra, small ensemble/chamber orchestra, solo professional gigs, as well as learning how to play with an ensemble with out the guidance of sheet music.
Experience Teaching:
I have taught students on and off since I was in high school. Offering lessons for various purposes, though mostly offering technical/musical guidance as well as site reading.
