Walter has always loved music from an early age. He began playing guitar at the age of 7 and continued his education by playing every day and setting my his own goals. His musical influences include Jazz, Bossa Nova, and Fingerstyle Folk.. Walter's favorite thing about music is it's inspiration and his favorite thing about teaching music is opening the eyes of my students. One of his favorite teaching experiences was teaching Lisa Loeb. When taking lessons with Walter you can expect serious study. What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced
No time to waste. You will learn scales, chords, rhythm, as it relates to the repertoire of your choosing, also based on your knowledge level. You will be required to study and learn the lessons I give you and review them at the start of each next lesson. You will not go further unless you learn what I give you, the previous week. You will earn shortcuts and the most economical way to play a chord. You will hear music, as it relates to guitar, and will assigned musicians to collect and listen to.
Formal Education:
I took Guitar lessons from Bob Petteruti for 4 years. Bob was recently elected into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame
Private Education:
None, really, just Bob, however, after the 4 years with Bob, I continually taught myself, having playing by ear and tuning by ear. After duscovering the music of Brazil in 1972, I self-taught myself fingerstyle jazz guitar and have doing that ever since
Performing Experience:
Many weddings since 1981. A few good gigs, one at Passim in Cambridge, opening for Pierre Bensusuan in the 1980s. Several fairs and festivals. I have recorded two master recordings of original music, one 14 songs with guitar and other stringed instruments, back in 1988 and another 10 ten songs, all instrumental with guitar and several other instruments in 1991. That music is published and registered with BMI.
Experience Teaching:
I started out teaching Brown University students, in their homes in 1981. I have taught students that have gone on to be famous, Lisa Loeb, comes to mind
