Cooper is a composer/arranger from St. Louis, MO. His passion for music began in 5th grade when he started writing music and playing the trumpet. His first public premier was in 7th grade when he composed a tone poem for a chamber wind ensemble entitled “Hiroshima Gone.” Three years later Cooper won a contest for composing his high school's first original fight song entitled “Greyhound Pride.” In 2015 Cooper received his bachelor's degree with honors from George Mason University. Here, he studied composition with Mark Camphouse and Tuba performance with Andrew Hitz. At George Mason Cooper wrote and premiered many different works for a variety of ensembles including symphonic band, symphony orchestra, woodwind quartet, brass quartet, string quartet, and voice. In 2014 Cooper won first place in the Webster University Young Composer's Competition for his woodwind quartet, Giggles. This piece is currently published with Alliance Publications. In 2015 Cooper received honorable mention in the Claude T. Smith Band Composition Contest for his work, The Darkest Hour. In 2015 Cooper received a full scholarship to participate in the NYU/ASCAP Summer Film Scoring Workshop. Most recently Cooper published six books of art song transcriptions for brass instruments entitled “The Art of Melody.” He plans to expand this book series and write new books. Today Cooper enjoys working as a private low brass instructor for middle school students in the St. Louis area.
