Keyboard and Piano Lessons

Home

About Me
I started the Piano when I was very young, and I loved it. I was taught to read notes and play chords, and I played in my first band when I was 10. Since then I have traveled the world playing the piano, on Cruise Ships, big clubs and Restaurants, in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iceland, Greece, and I also traveled up and down the East coast with the, “Platters “, as musical Director. I worked as a Piano teacher at a music store in Los Angeles, and was promoted to store manager, and sold musical instruments, Pianos, and Organs. From that point I traveled to many houses giving private lessons. And now I’m playing every weekend, at a Restaurant in the Valley, solo jazz piano, and I do all the love songs, some Latin, some Pop, Gospel, and R&B hits. I’m able to teach music by notes and chords, and how to improvise on the melodies and chords. My motto is, I play music with class, and I teach every song I play, which is over 400 songs.

What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

I do teach note reading, and chords study. However we can practice ear training and how to improvise. After a few lessons on reading, we can choose songs that you will like and want to play. Also we can have fun with Scales and reading lead sheets. For the beginning student once a week lessons for 30 minuets to 45 minuets, and you will have a week to go over your lesson and you will be ready for the next week assignment. And for the Adults I suggest every other week, so you can fine time to work out your lesson, and practice the rough parts. You will get good results if you can keep a good practice schedule, and before you know it, you will have so many favorite songs to read and play, to show off, or just to enjoy

Formal Education:

I started my education with my music in College, and received an Associate Degree, in Arts and Humanities. And I joined the Army school of music, and received private lessons, and playing opportunities with many great musicians. I took lessons at the Dick Groove school of music, and did recordings, arranging, and song writing training at the Musician institute in Hollywood.

Private Education:

My first private lessons was every Saturday morning for over 5 years. We used the Mathews training books, centered around classical music, and chords, a 10 volume book set, and it took 5 years to finish these books.

Performing Experience:

My first performance was at my piano Recitals, every year. And, with my family at age 12, we went around to Hotels, downtown, LA, and played for the Senior Citizens community. My jazz band experience is with the Army, and my experience as Musical Director, with the famous 50s group “ The Platters”. My Cruise Ship job was with a four piece band, we traveled from Canada to Alaska, 4 months of everyday entertaining. My 5 years Piano playing at the, Hong Kong jazz clubs, fancy restaurants, and many private functions in Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, and up and down the east coast.. I currently performing a Duo act with a Flute player/ Singer, and myself on Keyboards. We sound like an entire band.

Experience Teaching:

I first started teaching at a music store in Los Angeles, I had kids and adults, every half hour, all day on Saturday. Then I got a job playing the piano in Indonesia, and I begin to teach the English speaking kids from the international schools, and I went around in the day time giving private lessons, and played at a large Indonesia Hotel at night. When I got back to Los Angeles I started going out to teach, and also I had students coming to me. I worked with other teachers and always did a Recital each year.

Piano Student Review

Kamaren H. I am an adult student who lives in Torrance. Rei comes to my home to teach me every other week and he keeps me on track with my goals for piano. He is always an enthusiastic and patient teacher. Rei brings new sheet music to me which is right at my level of playing--the songs are popular songs that I want to play. It keeps me inspired to play and practice. Kamaren H. wrote on Mon, 20 Aug 2018
