I attended Wichita State University where I received my Bachelor's in Music Performance for percussion in 2007. While in attendance there, I coached high school drumline and continued to teach privately around the Wichita area. I was also fortunate to study privately with Marimba Artist, Kevin Bobo, for several years. In 2005, I was honored to be named one of Yamaha's Young Performing Artists of the Year and was invited to perform at the closing concert of the Bands of America Summer Symposium in Normal, Illinois. My Bachelor's was completed in 2007 after which I was awarded a teaching assistantship at Ithaca College to study with world-renowned Marimbist, Gordon Stout. I obtaining my Master's in Music Performance in 2009 and since then I have been teaching and performing for a living. I am currently on the sub-list for the Wichita Symphony Orchestra as well as the Wichita Grand Opera. My teaching experience spans a multitude of environments with all age groups. As a private teacher, I have worked with mainly children and young adults. Along with over 10 years of private teaching, I spent 4 years as an adjunct professor at Sterling College teaching percussion pedagogy and directing the community wind ensemble. My composition experience ranges from composing drumline scores, post commercial production, as well as solo works. I currently have 4 pieces available through C. Alan Publications.

Award Name:
What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons
Students can expect to gain fundamental knowledge of music theory and structure. To me, composing music is a very personal journey of self-expression. With my students, I would focus more on what is the tone, color, texture, etc. that they are wanting to achieve and assist them in exploring various ideas in which to take their vision.
What to expect in my Drum Lessons
Students can expect a passionate teacher that is patient, but expects progress in every lesson. I am willing to adjust to each students personal learning style and I strive to utilize the knowledge that students may already posses, but don't know how to apply towards the goal they are trying to achieve. I believe in crafting well-rounded players. Expect a multitude of percussion instruments to be covered each lesson. If I see that a student is particularly strong or interested in a certain area, I allow the student to go where their excitement takes them.
What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
Students can expect to gain a foundation of general music theory and proper technique. I believe in exposing my students to a wide-array of musical styles and genres in hopes that they will find something that excites them. Excitement breeds success and I try to utilize that in each lesson I teach.
